Confessions of an industry pariah.

I'm Darren Scotland. Founder and owner of Character Creative, a recruitment consultancy working within the design, advertising and digital media disciplines.

Sometimes elated sometimes deflated, recruitment can be a funny old game and this blog is where I plan to let off some steam.

If you're working in the design or digital industries and after a job then have a gander at the Character Creative site here: www.charactercreative.co.uk

If you're not then please stay, take a look around and leave a comment or two.... if you'd be so kind.

How’s best to say it?

Got got a couple of bits of great feedback on an earlier post on freelancers - one was a reminder that Character Creative doesn’t immediately come across as a recruitment agency.

I’ve heard that before and always thought it was quite a cool thing but maybe I was wrong? Like it or not, it is what we do, so if people aren’t getting that then we’ve got a problem.

So a bit of playing around over the weekend and a couple of ideas on a re-vamped home page:

I was at the Leeds city gallery on Saturday and saw this big sticker style thing stuck to the building promoting the new exhibition there (http://www.henry-moore-fdn.co.uk/matrix_engine/content.php?page_id=33). I’ve seen similar in the past of course and thought this might be a nice use.

Speech bubble, hopefully injects a bit more personality and begins to introduce the Cc mark a little more (the bubble points to it on the home page).

The rational on on highlighting “recruitment” is that it could change in the future, perhaps to “design” or “websites” or “whatever”.
