Your Brand: your secret weapon.

A last minute trip but well worth the effort - this is a review of last nights event at the Rose Bowl in Leeds; How to make your brand your secret weapon.

The event was organised and hosted by Thompson Brand Partners, a great design consultancy based here in Leeds. I’m yet to work with them but know several of their designers (past and present) and they’re a super talented bunch.

Ian (Thompson) introduced the night but very quickly passed over to Barry McNeil of Prozone - the sports data and analytics company best known for their work with professional football teams.

Prozone have been around for 10 years + and have been on an incredible journey over the last few of those years, tying up contracts with many of the top premier league teams as well as teams in Europe (Real Madrid included), Asia and the MLS.

Their product is unique in the market because they provide “insights” on top of the data and their relationship with Thompson has helped them communicate this fact better and is now seeing them expand into new markets.

I’m a big football fan (Everton for my shame) and it was great to get a bit of an inside track on something I’ve heard sound bites of from managers interviews etc. To find out they’re a Yorkshire based business was pretty awesome too!

Next up was Mike Hoban, currently Head of DirectGov.org - the nations official website - and I have to say, probably the best speaker I’ve seen all year. A really excellent delivery with well informed, engaging and easy to understand opinions on the power of brand and the message you send out to your clients.

John’s experience is mainly within large businesses like BA, WH Smith and, latterly, DirectGov.org but this didn’t mean what said wasn’t relevant to small and medium sized businesses.

Lastly a word from one of the sponsors who’s name I forgot, his company I do remember - they were called Secanter and they claim to give SME’s access to top notch Financial Directors on a part-time/consultancy basis. Interesting stuff for the right person I’m sure.

After the event the usual networking ensured (cue awkward conversation with old boss) and I got the chance to meet a couple of other attendees who all seemed similarly impressed with the speakers.

So well done Thompson and The Business Desk for all the work you put into the night and fingers crossed it pays dividends for you all.
